Congress Program and Theme
The theme of the ACAA 29th Annual Congress is Ageing in Australia – evolution or revolution?
The Congress Program will be innovative, informative and educational, offering a number of outstanding keynote speakers, supported by invited specialist speakers. In addition, concurrent sessions will feature submitted papers, in which a range of issues relating to aged care will be addressed.
Topics for Discussion
The 2010 Congress Program will address a range of issues, including:
- Funding an ageing population
- Is ageing a problem or an opportunity?
- What place does aged care have in an ageing society?
- Social care - right or entitlement?
- Redefining work. Will you still want me when I'm 74?
- Will technology change the nature of ageing?
- Will nursing homes be necessary in the future?
- De-regulation in aged care – what does it actually mean?
- Who's responsible for whom? The blurring of delineations between the acute, aged community and aged residential care sectors
- Who is entering facilities?
- The increasing focus on 'high care' rather than 'low care': medical complications, social problems and mental health problems
- Initiatives by state governments to keep residents out of acute facilities: draining of resources and costs of providing for basic care needs
- The increasing expectations of families
- The future of the media
- The challenges of securing suitable qualified staff
- How to build new facilities
- Is 'person centered care' realistic in today's ever increasing ageing environment?
